ABOUT THE DARTS: Type 'P' disposable darts are .50 caliber and were designed to provide a convenient, accurate, inexpensive long range missile for use on small as well as large animals. The 1/2cc and 1cc 'C' and 'P' appear to be identical, but the 'C' dart has a slightly larger diameter tail to engage in the rifling of cartridge-fired rifles. The type 'P' is for the smooth bore C02 Air Guns and Blowjection blowgun. The 2cc through 6cc 'P' darts have a small projection molded on the tail to hold them in other brands of projectors. 'P' darts are available in yellow only.
Darts are available with 14 gauge needles in lengths of 1/2", 3/4" 1", 1-1/4", 1-1/2" and 2". Darts 2cc through 6cc have a gelatin collar, but are available with a wire barb upon request. We do not recommend wire barbs or collars on 1/2cc or 1cc darts, but they are available at additional cost. You can purchase the practice darts or disposable darts.
Gelatin collars are used for medicating as well as capture. They will hold the dart in place until the injection is made and after several minutes will soften and the dart will fall from the animal.
As a guide, when ordering darts refer to this chart. This may not apply in all cases but is only suggested for your convenience.
Darts contain a small explosive charge which detonates on impact and quickly injects the drug. The 1cc dart will usually bounce off the animal, but because of the small quantity of liquid, the injection will be complete. In poor light or shadows, the dart will flash when the explosive detonates.
HOW TO FILL THE DARTS: To fill the dart, insert an 18 gauge 2" hypodermic needle on a filled syringe into the dart needle. Then inject the drug slowly into the dart while it is held with the needle pointing upward. Seal the end with over the counter antibiotic ointment. Disposable darts should not be pre-loaded with drugs for more than a few hours. If a dart is not used, remove the drug for later use. Disposable darts should be stored in a dry place. Disposable darts should not be refrigerated.
DRUGS AND THEIR USES: Rompun and Sucostrin (liquid Succinylcholine Chloride) are available through veterinarians and are effective in darts. We do not supply ANY solution for use with this product. Use Large animal Rompun which is supplied in 50 ml. bottles with a concentration of 100 mg. per ml.
